The Benedum Airport Project is a site development in Harrison County, West Virginia. This project is a hilltop removal that will allow for proper approach, departure slope/safety area for aircraft, and future runway extention plans. This project has required close coordination with airport authorities during blasting operations. During early construction, slip planes in the original ground fill areas were identified, and the fill areas were redesigned to minimize the potential for future stability problems. This 38-acre project includes: clearing, construction of four temporary sediment and erosion control ponds, 8,200 lineal feet of temporary and permanent fence, and 440,000 cubic yards of excavation, which will lower the hilltop approximately 50 feet.
